Questions parents ask
What families ask most. Can’t find your question? Call 415-403-2982. That number takes calls only, not texts.
Signing up
How do I sign up?
Fill in the form on the Sign up page. It takes about two minutes, and one form covers up to three children. We text you the field address as soon as it is confirmed.
Who can come?
Any child ages 7 to 11. Beginners and kids who already play are both welcome. There are no tryouts.
Is there a limit on spots?
No. We do not cap sign-ups. Every child ages 7 to 11 who signs up is welcome.
What if we can’t make the December dates?
December 5, 12 and 19 are only the first three clinics. Clinics start again in January 2027 and run through the end of 2027, so there will be plenty more chances. On the sign-up form, check the box that says “Text me when the 2027 dates are posted.”
Does my child have to come all three Saturdays?
No. Come to as many as you can. Kids get the most out of it when they come back each week.
What is the permission form?
A one-page form that a parent or legal guardian signs once for each child. It covers permission to play, emergency contacts, who may pick up your child, and photos. We bring copies in English and Spanish, and you can sign it at check-in on your child’s first day. A child cannot play without it.
Is everything available in Spanish?
This website, the sign-up form and the permission form are all in English and Spanish. We are working to have a Spanish speaker at the field for every session.
On the day
What time should we arrive?
Check-in opens at 9:15 am. Soccer starts at 9:30 and ends at 11:00.
Where is it?
In Austin, Texas. We are choosing a field close to the families we serve. The address goes on the Camp page as soon as it is confirmed, and we text it to every family that signs up.
Does my child need experience or gear?
No. Beginners are welcome. Bring a water bottle and wear sneakers or cleats. Shin guards help if you have them. We bring the balls.
What happens during the 90 minutes?
A warm-up game where every child has a ball, then three skill stations of twelve minutes each: dribbling, passing and shooting. After a water and snack break, kids play four against four in a Mini World Cup. We finish with a closing circle.
Is there a snack?
Yes. There is a water and snack break at 10:20. Tell us about any allergies on the sign-up form. Every snack is checked against the allergy list before it is handed out.
Do parents stay?
You are welcome to stay and watch. If you leave, your child goes home only with an adult you list on the form.
What if it rains?
If there is lightning or heavy rain, we cancel by text before 8:00 am that morning. If thunder or lightning starts during a session, everyone leaves the field right away, and play restarts only 30 minutes after the last thunder.
What if I am late for pick-up?
Call Garret Tadlock, the adult in charge, at 415-283-7082. Your child waits at the field with him until you or an adult on your form arrives.
Safety
Who are the coaches?
High school soccer players from Lake Travis, Westlake and other Austin-area high schools. They play on school and club teams, and they coach in small groups. Garret Tadlock, the background-checked adult in charge, is on the field at every session.
How many kids are in a group?
There is one coach for every 6 to 8 kids. Each child gets a color group at check-in and keeps the same coaches all morning.
What happens if my child gets hurt?
A first aid kit, ice and a charged phone are at the field. The adult in charge looks after any injury and calls you. A child who takes a knock to the head sits out for the rest of the day, and we call you at once. In an emergency we call 911 and then you.
Who can pick up my child?
Only you or an adult you name on the form. Every child is signed out. If someone else comes, we call you before your child leaves.
Will photos of my child be posted?
Only if you say yes on the form. If you say yes, photos may be shared with families, sponsors and schools, and never with your child’s full name. If you say no, your child is kept out of photos.
What happens to my child’s information?
Only the camp’s organizers, Maddox and Garret Tadlock, see it. We use it to run the camp safely. We never share it, and we never post a child’s name or photo without your permission.
Cost and gear
Is it really free?
Yes. There are no fees, no fundraising and nothing to buy. Sponsors and volunteers cover the snacks, shirts and equipment.
Does my child get a shirt or a ball?
Every child gets a free camp shirt, so please pick a size on the sign-up form. We are also asking sponsors for a soccer ball for every child to take home.
Do we have to buy cleats or shin guards?
No. Sneakers are fine. Shin guards help, but your child can play without them.
